COSI College Internship Position Description
Job Title: STRUCTURAL DOCUMENTATION INTERN
Reports to: DIRECTOR OF EXHIBIT OPERATIONS
Openings: 1
Time Requirement: 30-40 HOURS/MONTH
I. OBJECTIVE: Improve “Back-of-House” facility operations of COSI by improving basic documentation of building structure.
II. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: COSI has been operating at the 333 W. Broad Street facility for ten years, and there have been changes to the building during that period. Unfortunately, many of the changes were not documented at a centralized location; but were documented as individual prints submitted by the respective contractors. This project will endeavor to combine all available resources to develop a current set of prints that reflects these changes. This position will serve as the first step of a process which will ultimately involve multiple intern positions documenting architectural, electrical and plumbing aspects throughout the building.
III. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Director of Exhibit Operations, the Structural Documentation Intern’s duties may include:
a. Review previous architectural building design prints to identify deviations from original building design and current construction.
b. Work with Facility Operations and Exhibit Operations staff to refine understanding of current building construction.
c. Draft a new set of building prints reflecting current building construction.
d. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in the mode that best serves COSI’s Team Members, Volunteers, and visitors.
e. Perform other duties, within the scope of position, as assigned by the Senior Director of Exhibit Operations.
IV. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS NEEDED:
a. Minimum of 1 year’s work toward Associate''''s or Bachelor’s degree in architectural design.
b. Candidate must display an understanding of the basic concepts and fundamentals of drafting, especially for the building construction industry.
c. Candidate must be proficient in the use data collection tools needed for collection of basic measurements within the building.
d. Candidate must display a proficiency in the use of CAD software.
V. SCHEDULE: As arranged by supervisor, however there will be some evenings where the intern will need to perform measurements while the general public is not in the building. Those evenings will be coordinated around the intern’s availability and building usage for after-hours events.
