Charles Birnbaum, FASLA
Glimcher Lecture
Charles A. Birnbaum, FASLA, will present a lecture titled “Patronage and Design” on Monday, October 29 at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held in the Knowlton Hall Auditorium.
Birnbaum is the first executive director of The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), a non-profit organization that he founded in 1998. The mission of TCLF is to increase the public’s awareness of cultural landscapes though education, technical assistance and outreach. Previously, Birnbaum served as coordinator of the National Park Service Historic Landscape Initiative (HLI). At HLI, he helped develop national policy and standards and he also published Pioneers of American Landscape Design, a reference guide that highlights the work of 162 landscape practitioners.
Birnbaum was awarded the LaGasse Medal at the 2007 ASLA Annual Meeting in recognition of his leadership in management and conservancy of natural resources and public landscapes.
