Knowlton School second year Master of Architecture students Alex Mann, Jacqueline Stern and Denes Zubcsek were recognized as finalists in the "Smart Harbor" Young Architects Competition (YAC). Their entry, iTOUR, suggests how technology and architecture can develop a new vision for Italian costal health tourism in the Port of Pesaro, Italy.  The project by Mann, Stern and Zubcsek was one of 43 recognized from a total of 360 submitted by teams from over 50 countries.  Recognized works were exhibited in Pesaro for the award ceremony, and will appear in other venues in Italy.

Mann, Stern and Zubcsek were mentored and guided by Knowlton School Assistant Professor of Architecture Karen Lewis. Lewis brought together these students as part of an independent study project designed to take advantage of the University’s new May Session, suggesting that they team up to do a competition.

The "Smart Harbor" Young Architects Competition was structured to examine the “(d)eep and controversial economical transformations” that have affected Europe in recent years. Specifically, the YAC focused on the plight of the harbor city of Pesaro, asking young architects to imagine a new future for the harbor, with the goal being “to offer tourists and citizens a modern and appealing wellness and entertainment centre.”
