Kristi Cheramie Reappointed Section Head of Landscape Architecture

The Knowlton School has reappointed Kristi Cheramie as Section Head of the Landscape Architecture Section. Cheramie’s second term is for four years and begins August 2024.

From Director Dorothée Imbert

I am delighted to announce that Professor Kristi Cheramie has been reappointed as the Section Head of the Landscape Architecture Section Section at Knowlton.

Kristi Cheramie took on the role of section head in January 2020, shortly before the onset of the pandemic—a crisis she met by building trust with her faculty and students and preparing a strong foundation for future initiatives.

During the first four years of her tenure, Cheramie strengthened the position of the section within the school, the university, and beyond. She has significantly grown the BSLA cohort, restructured and expanded its Co-op program, launched the Midwest Landscape Lab and the Source Reports in Landscape Architecture series, and just recently secured reaccreditation for the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture.

Through Cheramie’s expanded culture of mentorship, the section has seen three successful promotion and tenure cases, two National Olmsted Scholars, and countless faculty awards, fellowships, and grants. She has fostered connections within the school as well as across departments and colleges. Landscape architecture has partnered with History of Art on a RAISE cluster hire and with the Department of Design and the School of Environment and Natural Resources on a Good to Great proposal. Graduates of the BSLA and MLA programs find employment in prestigious design firms across the United States. In short, landscape architecture at Ohio State has achieved strong national recognition with deep ties to a new and growing network.

Kristi Cheramie has maintained her engagement with scholarship, teaching, and outreach. She published the book Through Time and the City: Notes on Rome with Routledge, participated in academic conferences, and organized the symposium Race, Space, and Unifying Power of Design with Trott Distinguished Visiting Professor Matt Williams, as well as the Centering Diversity: Landscape Architecture in Ohio Summit. She was promoted to Professor in 2022.

In conclusion, Professor Cheramie has been a great leader. Her clear vision for the landscape architecture section is evident in her achievements. She has boundless energy for developing new initiatives and expanding alliances all while building a culture of support and care, creating a cohesive, collegial, and productive faculty and section. We look forward to future achievements in her next term. Please join me in congratulating Kristi Cheramie.
