City and Regional Planning Intern Show

Student works exhibited in the Banvard Gallery through June 9th
May 28, 2006 - 8:00pm to June 8, 2006 - 8:00pm

Student projects on affordable housing, neighborhood development, environmental preservation and other topics are on display through June 12 at the Knowlton School of Architecture.

Master’s degree students in the Knowlton School’s City and Regional Planning program have worked in public and private planning agencies around Central Ohio honing their skills and conducting service learning activities. Most of the students spend their entire two-year program in such internships, which include work in public or private agencies such as city, county and state offices; the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, Ohio Forestry Association, Greater Linden Development Corporation, A.J. Zande, M.E. Companies and the Danter Corp.

This year, an anonymous KSA alumna has made a donation to honor five of the interns with a certificate and a monetary award for their work. The awards will be announced at a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 1 during the exhibition in the Banvard Gallery in the Knowlton School.

The exhibition includes a mix of the students’ products, including posters, PowerPoint presentations, Web sites and papers.

The interns also are required to take a service learning course each quarter. The course highlights community speakers, internship issues and applied discussions such as resume building. Assignments include a diversity training exercise. Hazel Morrow-Jones, the College of Engineering associate dean for graduate and professional education and associate professor of city and regional planning, on May 18 received an Ohio State Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship because of her work with the class.
