Slowing the Storm Surge

Benque Viejo del Carmen

While many cities undertake the process of preparing comprehensive plans, the details of planning and their implication for directing change occurs at a much more local stage at the neighborhood level. In Columbus, the city directs land use, urban design and development issues through its area and neighborhood planning program. These planning efforts also offer the opportunity to jointly address land use and development issues across jurisdictional boundaries, which can benefit different communities.

Westside Greenway Studio

Part of the increasing complexity of this studio will be created by taking the knowledge of site design, ecology, program, and client needs that you’ve learned in previous studios and placing them in this new urban context—and dealing with the relationships of these concerns and values within the city environment as it connects to the fringe and region. In this studio, we will be consistently and simultaneously seeking to find and resolve the inter-relationships between scales, multiple stakeholders, and issues.

2013 Italian Village Transportation Study

The Italian Village Transportation Plan was compiled by city and regional planning students at The Ohio State University during the 2013 Spring Semester. Embarking on a 15-week study of transportation in the Italian Village and Short North districts, the studio sought to understand existing conditions in the area by collecting data on current parking capacity and availability, conducting surveys, and initiating stakeholder meetings. Having accomplished these tasks, studio members developed feasible recommendations to present to the client.
