About Open KSA
The Knowlton School of Architecture (KSA) at The Ohio State University is initiating an Open Education program, consisting of a pool of digital resources that may be used for teaching, learning, and research by the KSA and the global community. We anticipate that this program will also enhance our teaching and learning practices at OSU, with OER modules being used in existing courses, outreach initiatives, and continuing education and lifelong learning programs. The content posted on this site represents work completed during the pilot phase of our program development.
Program Goals
We anticipate that our program will:
- create flexible, engaging, and personalized learning opportunities for KSA students
- create reusable, "just-in-time" learning components that can be used in educational programs online, anywhere
- contribute to the global body of knowledge available online in the disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and City and Regional Planning
- foster communities of practice
Project Timeline
Planning for the Open Education initiative at the KSA began in July 2008 with a $15,000 TELR Innovation Planning Grant. In March, 2009, our team completed a pilot consisting of seven lectures from an introductory Architecture course (posted on this site). The next phase of development began in April 2009 and includes planning for a more robust infrastructure, content design, and research regarding learning strategies and assessment. We anticipate that Open content from 5-7 courses will be accessible to the public via the Knowlton School of Architecture's website by 2010.
