All continuing education courses qualify for AIA Continuing Education
Credit and Kentucky Planning Continuing Education Credit. These
courses may qualify for Tennesee Continuing Education Credit, contact
your employer to find out. AICP Certification Maintenance credit
will be available in the future.
One CEU credit is equivalent to approximately one hour of online
programming time. For example, the basic issues in zoning course
earns 2 CEU's. This means that it takes approximately 2 hours to
complete the course.
AICP Exam Review:
This course provides assistance in preparing for the American Institute
of Certified Planners Exam. This course review history, theory,
statistics, law, and all other planning subject areas.
Basic Issues in Zoning: 2
CEUs: This course is perfect for Planning and Zoning Commissioners,
City Council members, County Commissioners and Township Trustees.
This course introduces the basics of zoning, including the legal
basis of zoning, types of zoning, variances, planned unit developments,
conditional use permits and nonconforming uses.
Conservation Zoning: 2 CEUs:
This course introduces the concept of conservation based subdivision
design. How to draft a conservation zoning ordinance is discussed.
Examples of successful conservation based subdivisions are included.
Design Review: 2 CEUs: This
course examines how design review can be used in communities. Examples
of how design review can be used for big box retailers and infill
development are included.
E-governance: 14
CEUs: This course uses e-government applications in use across the
United States. The course includes lectures on discussion boards,
e-commerce applications, and issues of accessibility for the disabled.
Managing Public Meetings:
4 CEUs: Debra Stein, President of GCA Strategies discusses techniques
for managing the angry public. Vince Papsidero, AICP, Director of
Planning and Community Development for the City of Delaware, Ohio
discusses how to manage politically charged public meetings. Other
speakers will offer advise on how to manage public meetings. This
course has been approved for Certification Maintenance Credit.
Planning Ethics:1.5
CEUs: Carol
Barrett, Planning Director for the City of San Marcos, Texas
and author of Everyday Ethics for Professional Planners
will discuss ethics and ethical practice for professional planners
and planning commissioners. This course has been approved for Certification
Maintenance Credit.
Site Planning: 4
CEUs: Steve Gordon, Professor of City and Regional Planning at OSU
will discuss the fundamentals of developing and evaluating subdivision
designs.
Smart Growth Initiatives:
3 CEUs: Stu Meck, a researcher
with the American Planning Association, will discuss legislative
initiatives around the nation.
The Role of the BZA and Variances:
2 CEUs: This course is designed for members of Boards of Zoning
Appeals or Boards of Zoning Adjustment. It covers the fundamentals
of when to grant a variance and walks participants through real
world cases.
Transfer of Development Rights: 2
CEUs: Tim DeWitt, with Bennett
and Williams, Larry Libby with the OSU Department of Agricultural,
Development and Environmental Economics, Jon Peterson, Assistant
Majority Whip on the Ohio General Assemby, Karen Doty, Director
of the Summit County Department of Law and others present their
perspective on the potential use of Transfer of Development Rights.
Zoning and Landscape Laws:
8 CEUs: Buck Abbey, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture
at Louisiana State University and author of U.S. Landscape Ordinances
will discuss the fundamentals of landscape codes. This course is
designed for planners, landscape architects, and public officials.
