On-line Graduate Certificate in Facilities Planning and Management

Course Listing

 

From your home or office computer, you can complete all of the course work. Participants view weekly audio/video lectures, complete projects, discuss issues, and consult with faculty. The courses include hand-on experience that includes case studies, team work, and in-depth projects.

Starting Date:

The next program starts in January, 2008. It may be possible to start in a different quarter. Please consult with the Program Coordinator.

The Master's level Certificate includes four courses:

CRP 764: City Planning Administration, Winter (January - April): 4 Credit Hours: This course will introduce students to a wide variety of techniques employed by the public and private sector to manage an organization. This course covers project management, communications, personnel management, budgeting, and the RFP/RFQ process.

CRP 735: Programming Environments for Urban Use, Spring (April - June): 3 Credit Hours: This course is an introduction to user-oriented environment programming for planners and designers; application of several methods for specifying the characteristics required of an environmnetal setting to support user behavior.

CRP 780: Real Estate Finance for Planners, Summer (June - August): 3 Credit Hours: This course is meant to provide students with an understanding of the processes and decision making surrounding real estate development. A background in basic financial analysis will help students to understand the impact of their decisions on project feasibility. The course will look at basic market research, site selection and development across a wide range of projects. In addition we will discuss methods of financing and public subsidies such as CDBG funds and Low Income Housing Tax Credits and their impact on project feasibility. The course will cover basic financial analysis such as pro forma development and discounted cash flow and ratio analysis.

CRP 990: Practicum: Fall (September - December): 5 Credit Hours: In this course each student selects an independent project encompassing everything learned in the certificate program. The student will work individually with a faculty member to develop a project based on the student's interests.

You can complete the course requirements at the times and places most convenient to you during each week of the course. You can choose to take just one course or complete the certificate program as a whole.
