17th! Ohio State University's City and Regional Planning program,
the Columbus Section of the American Planning Association, and the
Criminal Justice Research Center at OSU are sponsoring a day-long
seminar on Creating a Safer Physical Environment through Design.
The seminar will be held at the Fawcett Center in Columbus, Ohio.

10:00 am - 11:30 am - Ralph B. Taylor PhD, Professor of Criminal
Justice at Temple University conducts research on people's perception
of their environment and their perceptions of safety.
11:45 - 1:00 pm - Lunch and Principles on Evaluating and Creating
a Safe Physical Environment Sergeant Earl Smith, Columbus Police
Department. Sergeant Smith is a Certified Prevention Specialist
who has been teaching groups about Crime Prevention Through Environmental
Design for many years.
1:15 pm - 3:00 pm - Strategies for Creating a Safescape
Dean Brennan, AICP is a planner with the City of Phoenix, Arizona.
He is responsible for initiating the City of Phoenix's Safe Communities
Program, a partnership of city departments involved with safety.
Brennan is the author of Safescape available through the Planners
Press.
The cost of this event is $50. Students can register for the discounted
price of $15. Participants may attend the 10 am session only for
free.
This program qualifies for six hours of AICP and AIA Continuing
Education Credit.
