Thun is an Associate Professor at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, and partner in the Toronto-based firm RVTR. With partner Kathy Velikov, he received a 2008 Young Architect Award from the Architectural League of New York, and the 2009/2010 Canadian Professional Prix de Rome in Architecture.  Thun’s current design-research examines systems-based approaches to large scale regional landscape infrastructure, and the design of prefabricated high performance housing and site design strategies. The US Department of Energy (DOE) / National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), NRCan, CMHC and SSHRC currently fund this work. His design-research has been published by MIT Press, Princeton Architectural Press, and in the Journal of Architectural Education (JAE).
