Dana Cuff is Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at UCLA where she is also Director of cityLAB, an award-winning design research center focused on spatial justice. Since receiving her PhD in Architecture from Berkeley, Cuff has published multiple books and articles and lectured widely about design and inclusion, the architectural profession, Los Angeles urban history, and affordable housing. Based on cityLAB studies, in 2016 Cuff co-authored a landmark bill that doubles the density of suburbs across the state by allowing “backyard homes.” She is currently working on design and legislation for affordable housing to be co-located with public schools. Cuff was the recent recipient of several prestigious awards: Women in Architecture Activist of the Year (2019, Architectural Record), Researcher of the Year (2020, ARCC), Educator of the Year (2020, AIA Los Angeles), and Public Impact Scholar (2022, UCLA).

Cuff will demonstrate through images of her own work and that of architects around the world how architecture’s capacity to advance spatial justice can be realized.
