The deadline to apply for the School's spring semester London Architecture Program and Architecture Studies Program in Italy has been extended to Tuesday, October 15. Limited travel scholarships are available for these programs.

Building upon the success of last year’s inaugural Columbus Design Week, the Center for Architecture and Design (The Center) has expanded the concept to become “a month of events connecting the public to Columbus’ design ecosystem, promoting local design, and raising the expectation of good design in Columbus.” This year’s Columbus Design Week[s] runs September 27 – November 2 and includes more than two dozen events divided into two broad categories: Those organized by The Center, and those organized by other Columbus institutions and organizations, including the Knowlton School.

As part of a recent site visit to Cincinnati, third year undergraduate (U3) Knowlton Architecture students toured the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), an award-winning project designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.

Knowlton Hall is among 16 buildings competing in the Contemporary bracket in the ArChallenge, an AIA Columbus initiative designed to identify “the most architecturally significant and iconic structures in Columbus from the past 100 years.”

Building on an $865,000 Community Challenge Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that the project received in 2011, faculty at the Knowlton School are involved in the launch of the capital campaign to create a new food district in the Columbus neighborhood of Weinland Park.

Graduate and undergraduate architecture students at the Knowlton School participated in a five day workshop, “The City as an Aggregated Figure,” directed by Peter Trummer, Head of the Institute of Urban Design in Innsbruck, Austria, with Kristy Balliet, Assistant Professor of Architecture at Knowlton.

Columbus firm Meyers + Associates Architecture has been included in the ARCHITECT 50 list of the nation’s top firms by Architect Magazine. Firms were ranked in several categories – Business, Sustainability and Design – with Meyers + Associates achieving a 33rd overall ranking and claiming the 7th spot in the Sustainability category. The firm’s Principal Architect and founding owner is Knowlton alumnus Christopher Meyers.

City and Regional Planning faculty members Gulsah Akar and Steve Gordon have been awarded a research grant of $151,000 from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for their project “Linking Land Use, Transportation and Travel Behavior in Ohio: Incorporating Decline and Vehicle Choice Components.”

Stoss Landscape Urbanism, the 7th volume of the Knowlton School's Source Books in Landscape Architecture series, explores the firm and The CityDeck project in Green Bay, Wisconsin though dialogue with Stoss principal Chris Reed, and highlights the influences and perspectives of several collaborators and colleagues.

The 2013 LEGO DESIGN CHALLENGE, presented by the Center for Creativity at the Columbus Museum of Art, is a design competition that promotes the creative and original use of LEGO bricks. All design entries must respond to the following challenge: Create a functional or useable object using LEGO bricks. The object or tool could be used in real life.
