Knowlton faculty members Kyle Ezell and Stephen Turk have been recognized with College of Engineering Distinguished Faculty Awards.

On November 7-8, 2013, the Knowlton School hosted the symposium Situating Food: Planning and Design for New Urban Food Systems. The event aimed at identifying innovative food system models to enrich the community, and attracted more than 160 participants from numerous departments within the larger university and non-Ohio State community collaborators, including Local Matters, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, the Eastern market Corporation, Mid-Ohio Food Bank and local residents.

HGT Architects, founded by Knowlton School alumnus Henry Gunawan Tjhi (BSARCH ’97) is featured in “Indonesian Architecture: Tropical and Emerging”, issue #34 of the Chinese architecture magazine UrbanFlux.

As part of their pre-departure preparations, students taking part in the spring semester Architecture Studies Program in Italy have developed blogs to record their experiences abroad. The blogs will include drawings, site visits, scholarly work and everyday activities.

City and Regional Planning Lecturer Jason Sudy’s graduate Transportation Studio (CRPLAN 6950) has been highlighted in the Columbus Dispatch. Planning students in Sudy’s course are engaged in a comprehensive review of parking space usage in German Village, an area experiencing chronic parking shortages for residents and local businesses.

A five-person team comprised of students from the Knowlton School and the Fisher College of Business received an honorable mention in the in the Urban Land Institute’s Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition. It was the first time in the prestigious competition’s 12-year history that a team from Ohio State placed in the top 10. The competition attracted submissions from 72 universities, with 163 teams and more than 800 graduate students taking part.

Jennifer Evans-Cowley, PhD, AICP, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Administration for the College of Engineering and Professor of City and Regional Planning at the Knowlton School, is the recipient of the American Planning Association’s 2014 Chapter Presidents Council Leadership Award for Chapter Professional Development Officer. The award recognizes Evans-Cowley for a decade of leadership as a professional development officer for the Ohio Chapter of APA.

Knowlton School Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture Katherine Bennett and Assistant Professor of Architecture Karen Lewis were recognized by the Sphinx Senior Class Honorary for their contributions to undergraduate education.

Knowlton students Matt Johnson (G1 MARCH) and Shelly Drees (4th year BSLA) have been short-listed in the 2013 Fentress Global Challenge, Upcylced Architecture Competition for their submission, Warner Swasey Urban Wilderness Area. Winning students will receive cash prizes, internships, certficates of merit and gain international exposure while being exhibited at the A+D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles, California.

The Center for Architecture and Design's Camp Architecture, in collaboration with AIA Columbus and the Knowlton School, will offer a High School Design Studio during the weeks of June 16 - 27, 2014. The two week day camp will provide students with an introductory, hands-on design studio experience in Knowlton School at The Ohio State University.
