Congratulations to the 186 Knowlton School undergraduate students who made Dean’s List in Autumn 2015! Undergraduate students at Ohio State who complete a minimum of 12 graded credit hours with a term GPA of at least a 3.5 or higher for any given term will be named on the Dean’s List.

Design critic and theorist Robert Somol is the Knowlton School’s Spring 2016 Herbert Baumer Distinguished Visiting Professor. Somol joins a long list of prominent practitioners and scholars as Baumer Professors since the program’s inception in 1996, including Stan Allen, Zaha Hadid, Steven Holl, Eric Owen Moss, Greg Lynn, Sylvia Lavin, Preston Scott Cohen, Benjamin Bratton and Neil Denari.

WANTED landscape, co-founded by Knowlton School Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture Paula Meijerink and Senior Lecturer in Architecture Thierry Beaudoin, has received the 2015 Regional Merit Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and been selected to develop a series of installations at the Montréal Botanical Garden.

Fifty Knowlton School and Ohio State colleagues, former students, friends and family of Professor Hazel Morrow-Jones gathered in the Knowlton Hall Center Space on November 5, 2015 to share memories and celebrate the retirement of Professor Hazel Morrow-Jones. In addition to her role in the Knowlton School’s City and Regional Planning Section, Hazel was Associate Provost for Women’s Policy Initiatives and Director of The Women’s Place (TWP) at Ohio State.

The 2015-2016 Knowlton School Alumni Society’s Mentor Program kicked-off the year with a Fall Mixer in September at the Short North Pint House. Approximately 150 Mentors and mentees attended the mixer to meet with their respective Mentor Teams and to define their goals for the program year. Attendees from the Knowlton School included Director Mike Cadwell, Architecture Section Head Rob Livesey, Alumni Relations and Events Coordinator Karin Gillund and Student Services manager Angi Beer (BSLA ’01, MCRP ’08).

The American Society of Landscape Architects New York chapter has named Knowlton School alumna Susan Chin, FAIA (BARCH ’76) an honorary member in recognition of her service to the profession of landscape architecture. In addition, Design Trust for Public Space, of which Chin is the Executive Director, was awarded the 2015 Olmsted Medal by ASLA. Chin received both awards at the 2015 ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Chicago in November.

Knowlton School Associate Professor of Architecture Karen Lewis has published Graphic Design for Architects: A Manual for Visual Communication (Routledge), a handbook of techniques, explanations and examples of graphic design relevant to architects, landscape architects, and city and regional planners. The book is a recent Number 1 best seller.

Three Knowlton School alumni were among 16 alumni and friends of the College of Engineering recognized at the 18th Annual Excellence in Engineering & Architecture Awards in October. Each year, this event honors individuals for their extraordinary personal achievements, remarkable contributions to their professional fields, or their outstanding service to the college. This year’s honorees from the Knowlton School and the awards they received are: George Kontogiannis (Meritorious Service Citation); Jeff Morosky and Mark Schendel (Distinguished Alumni Awards).
