Robert Livesey, FAIA Receives AIA Ohio Gold Medal
Columbus – Columbus architect and educator Robert Livesey, FAIA, has been awarded the AIA Ohio 2010 Gold Medal Award.  The AIA Ohio Gold Medal is the highest honor that AIA Ohio can bestow on an individual.  It is conferred by the AIA Ohio Board of Directors in recognition of exemplary efforts and significant accomplishments.

This award is granted annually to an individual who has demonstrated how his or her achievements address one or more of the eligibility criteria as outlined below:

  • Promoting the aesthetic, scientific and practical excellence of the profession
  • Advancing the science and art of planning by advancing the standards of Architectural education, training and practice
  • Coordinating the building industry and the profession of Architecture to insure the advancement of the living standards of people through their improved environment
  • Making the profession of ever-increasing service to society through service to the AIA, service via an alternative career or government service

“The AIA Ohio Board of Directors was impressed with Rob’s credentials and his significant leadership successes at Ohio State’s Knowlton School of Architecture,” said AIA Ohio President, Bruce Sekanick, AIA. 

Livesey has won numerous architectural design awards, has been published in various journals and has received distinguished teaching honors at both Yale and Ohio State.  At the Knowlton School, Livesey has brought international recognition to the School as a center of design excellence and education.  His efforts have solidified a national reputation for graduates of the University.  In addition to his teaching and practice, Livesey has continually served the community.  He has served on the board of both AIA Ohio and AIA Columbus, and was a long-standing member of the Columbus Architectural Foundation.  He has also been on the boards of the Columbus Design Center and Columbus City Schools’ Neighborhood School Development Partnership. 

Throughout his career, Livesey has increased the presence of architecture in the world, advanced the standards of architectural education and helped to establish Ohio as a center of design.   Livesey will be awarded the AIA Ohio Gold Medal on Friday, 1 October 2010, at the Toledo Art Museum during the Awards Banquet of the annual AIA Ohio Convention.

As a state component of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Ohio represents over 2000 architects throughout Ohio.
