CRP Student Recognized by Board of Trustees for Russia Project

Graham Welling, a senior in the OSU Honors Program double majoring in City and Regional Planning and Russian, received the Student Recognition Award at the Friday, February 10 meeting of the University's Board of Trustees. Drew Enigk, a senior majoring in Animal Sciences, was also recognized by the BoT.

Welling is on track to graduate Magna Cum Laude this spring. He participated in a quarter-long language emersion program through OSU in Russia in 2010 and interned with the Institute of Urban Economics in Russia in the summer of 2011. Welling was responsible for investigating legal regulation of development, smart growth, and the formulation of master plans in Perm, Russia. Through his internship, he was able to write a journal article, in Russian, about the development plan for Perm, which has been submitted for publication in a Russian law journal.

Welling has been very active in service and extracurricular acrivities at OSU. He is vice president of the Russian Club and was selected for a Center for Slavic and Eastern European Studies 11-12 Fellowship. Welling  participates in the ESL conversation partners program. He serves on the Committee of 88 and is involved in TerrAqua, a student group involved in water-quality and conservation projects.

After graduation, Welling plans to work for a company or NGO involved in planning and development in Russia and/or Eastern Europe.
