Karen Lewis Announced as Finalist in DYMAX REDUX Competition

Knowlton School Assistant Professor of Architecture Karen Lewis was one of eleven finalists in DYMAX REDUX, “an open call to create a new and inspiring interpretation of Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Map.”  The competition, sponsored by the Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI), attracted more than 300 entrants from 42 countries. As a finalist, Lewis’ entry, “The Geography of Violence: Guns, Stress and Mental Health,” will be featured this autumn at an in-person exhibition at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Submissions were rated based on “originality, aesthetic beauty and informative qualities.”

Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion Map was developed in the 1940’s and is an undistorted projection of the Earth’s surface. The Map has the ability to be easily reconfigured and transform from a 2-D map to a 3-D globe.
