Redirecting a Monoculture

G3 Landscape Architecture Studio / Autumn 2014 / Karen Lutsky

Issues: Since 1987, Saginaw Bay has been listed as an Area of Concern by the EPA due to severely compromised biological, chemical and physical integrity. Nutrient runoff from farm fields due to excessive synthetic chemical applications are a major contributor to this issue.

Concept: A research park investigates the role Phragmites australis may play in phytoremediation, composting and organic farming while topographic interventions provide new vantage points and habitat diversification. A regionally connected path system allows visitors to explore this unique environment.
