The Knowlton School Celebrates the Retirement of Hazel Morrow-Jones

Fifty Knowlton School and Ohio State colleagues, former students, friends and family of Professor Hazel Morrow-Jones gathered in the Knowlton Hall Center Space on November 5, 2015 to share memories and celebrate the retirement of Professor Hazel Morrow-Jones. In addition to her role in the Knowlton School’s City and Regional Planning Section, Hazel was Associate Provost for Women’s Policy Initiatives and Director of The Women’s Place (TWP) at Ohio State.

Hazel joined Ohio State’s faculty in 1988 as an assistant professor. As a faculty member, she taught at all levels in the CRP program. Since 2010, in her role as Associate Provost for Women’s Policy Initiatives and Director of TWP, she worked tirelessly and effectively to catalyze change at Ohio State.

At the November event, a speakers program included comments by CRP Section Head Professor Rachel Kleit, Knowlton School Director Mike Cadwell, Knowlton School Alumni Society President William Murdock (MCRP ’99), College of Engineering Dean David Williams, Vice Provost for Capital Planning and Regional Campuses and former CRP Section Head Professor Jennifer Evans-Cowley, with Hazel’s former student Katrin Anacker (MCRP ’99, PHDCRP ’06) joining the celebration via Sykpe from her office in Washington, DC.

Anacker announced that she had helped create a scrapbook of comments by former students and colleagues of Hazel’s. The book was then resented to Hazel, and guests were invited to add their own memories of Hazel to the collection.

In addition, the City and Regional Planning Section announced that the Hazel Morrow-Jones Endowed Scholarship Fund had been created to provide scholarships for students pursuing degree programs in the section.
