John Corkill Awarded College of Engineering Meritorious Service Citation

John F. Corkill, Jr., AIA (BArch ’67) has been awarded the College of Engineering Dean’s Meritorious Service to Students Award as part of the Spring 2023 College of Engineering  Faculty Awards Ceremony. The award recognizes individuals who have provided exemplary service to students and support for their learning, mentoring, and career opportunities. Corkill was nominated by Knowlton School Director Dorothée Imbert and the Architecture Class of 1966.

Corkill is President and Senior Principal at Corkhill Cush Reeves Architects, a firm that specializes in residential and commercial projects with a focus on high-performing, sustainable homes and buildings. Corkhill also served as the past president of AIA Potomac Valley and AIA Maryland and has served on the national board of AIA.

Corkhill is tireless supporter of Knowlton students. He has personally endowed or played a leadership role in creating several scholarship funds. In 2000, Corkhill endowed the James T. Rector ’66 Scholarship in memory of a former classmate. In 2015, he endowed the John and Besty Corkhill Endowed Scholarship in honor of his late wife. Both scholarships assist Knowlton School architecture students who demonstrate financial need to complete their degree program. Corkhill also provides support as a mentor to the students who receive his scholarships. Since inception, these two endowments have provided Knowlton students over $88,000 through 44 scholarships.

In 2015, Corkhill organized classmates to endow the Class of ’66 Architectural Scholarship. This endowed fund has distributed 11 scholarships totaling $37,000 to Knowlton students. Corkhill also spearheaded efforts to fund the Architecture Class of 1967 Scholarship, which will soon be available to current architecture students. Corkhill has been an Ohio State donor for over 42 years.
