Ohio State ranked 5th among undergraduate programs and 11th among graduate programs nationally in DesignIntelligence’s Top 25 Most Admired Schools for accredited landscape architecture programs. Rankings are based on survey feedback provided by hiring professionals in the fields of landscape architecture, architecture and interior design.   

In the category for most hired from landscape architecture schools, the Knowlton School’s programs ranked 6^th in the country according to the DesignIntelligence 2019 School Rankings Survey. The Knowlton School was placed in Group 1 — 35+ Graduates, the highest of the six size categories, based on the average number of graduates each year in their combined undergraduate and graduate programs.

From data collected from landscape architecture firms and other professional organization, the survey also ranks how recent graduates are performing in 12 key focus areas such as design theory and practice, design technology, project planning and management, and communication skill. Showing consistency across the categories, the Knowlton School’s undergraduate and graduate programs appear in the top ten in all 12 categories.

DesignIntelligence asked deans, program chairs, and department heads the question: “What significant changes have been made to your landscape architecture course offerings in the past three years?” The highest-rated response—at 64%—was an increased emphasis on sustainable/healthy design. The Knowlton School curriculum tracks well in this regard, with the undergraduate program ranking 3^rd and the graduate program ranking 6^th nationally in the key focus area of Healthy Built Environments.

DesignIntelligence also named Knowlton School Professor of Landscape Architecture and Architecture Section Head Dorothée Imbert one of the 25 Most Admired Educators. Educators and administrators from the disciplines of architecture, interior design and landscape architecture are honored for excellence in the fields based on input from thousands of design professionals, academic department heads and students. The publication described Imbert as the following: “High standards in every aspect of the profession---design, literature, research, technology, theory. Well spoken, inspirational, fair, and witty.”

Each year DesignIntelligence conducts the America’s Top Ranked Architecture & Design Schools survey, which ranks undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of the professional practitioners who hire and supervise graduates of architecture, landscape architecture and interior design programs. For the three professions reported, over 9,000 hiring professionals from over 4,200 professional practice organizations returned survey responses.
