Undergraduate Minor in Architecture

Undergraduate Minor in Architecture

The architecture section offers an undergraduate minor in Architectural Studies. Every student will impact the physical environment, from renovating a family home to voting on large civic projects. Therefore, every student should be educated to make informed decisions when doing so. This is especially true when the physical environment is understood as the entwinement of the natural and the manmade, in brief, an ecology at risk. Because of architecture’s broad cultural impact, the minor in architectural studies is geared toward a wide audience. The minor is an ideal supplement to studies in city and regional planning, landscape architecture, construction management, civil engineering, or other related disciplines.

Curriculum

The choices in core courses ensure that students will gain some exposure to history, theory, or methods in architecture. The curriculum is designed to be flexible to allow students to take courses that most meet their interests.

No permissions or approvals are required from the section to pursue the minor, though students should alert college or school counselors of their intent to complete the minor so that the correct plan can be assigned to their records and tracked in the degree auditing system. No more than three hours of independent study may be applied to any minor.

Students are required to complete 13 credit hours in Architecture to fulfill the minor requirements. At least 6 credit hours must be taken at the 3000-level or above and overlap with the GE is permitted unless specifically disallowed by an individual minor program. Students must take the minor courses for a grade and receive a 2.0 or higher.
