Architecture, Landscape and City Scholars

Architecture, Landscape and City Scholars

The Architecture, Landscape and City Scholars Program provides a community environment and engages students with activities outside the classroom. First-year Architecture, Landscape and City Scholars students live together in Torres House on North Campus, ideally located close to Knowlton Hall. In addition to the shared residential community, site visits, seminars, and travel opportunities engage students and encourage exploration of the built and natural environments. Additionally, the program includes social activities, skill-development workshops, service initiatives, and leadership opportunities.

A strong candidate for the Architecture, Landscape and City Scholars Program is a student who is strongly interested in the program’s theme and desires to investigate the historical, cultural, and social significance of the built and natural environment with making connections with other students, Knowlton faculty and staff.

The program focuses on growing students’ understanding of the historical, cultural, and social significance of the world around them through the lens of design and planning. The program offers local trips and visits as well as day and weekend travel. Recent day trips have included visits to the celebrated Miller House and Garden in Columbus, Indiana, and recent weekend trips include visits to Chicago, Toronto, and Buffalo.

All freshman applicants to Ohio State who intend to major in architecture, landscape architecture, or city and regional planning are highly encouraged to apply for Scholars on their admissions application. Priority consideration is given to students who complete their application by the early action deadline.
