Thickened Ground and Elevated Volume

Thickened Ground and Elevated Volume
Kasi Reed

This project focuses on the contrasting relationship between orthogonal and diagonal lines. The project accomplishes this by placing an emphasis on orthogonal lines on the west side of the volume and a focus on diagonal lines on the east side.

The lines formed within the model interact with the ground differently. The straight lines directly touch the ground while the diagonal lines only touch the volume. The thickened ground plane is designed to highlight the contrast between steep and shallow. By stacking multiple steps of varying heights, clear orthogonal lines are created.

Lastly, the volume is elevated with structural supports that touch the thickened ground plane at different points and heights. This allows for the volume to sit perfectly in the uneven site.

This project celebrates the contrasting relationship between orthogonal and diagonal lines as well as the interesting effects achieved through stacking.
