Gala Korniyenko Presents on Neurodiversity in Planning

Gala Korniyenko (PhD ’23) will co-present at the APA California 2023 Conference during the session “Embracing Neurodiversity in California Planning: Applying the Lens of the Autism Planning and Design Guidelines” in Fresno, California.

The session will assess how the Autism Planning and Design Guidelines developed at the Knowlton School, have been used to assess neurodiversity and how to include neurodiverse voices as an integral part of their planning processes. California planners Clarissa Manges and Jared Knight performed in-depth research on planning for neurodiverse populations, based partly on the ideas in the Autism Planning & Design Guidelines. Both applied the Guidelines to California contexts. Before elaborating on their work, they will share firsthand accounts of their adult neurodivergent experiences in the urban environment.
