The retreat house project was located on a waterfront site in a secluded, wooded area. My project began with reeds from the water moving up the site, in effect lifting up the rooms of the house from the ground. The reeds acted as the support for the house, helped to separate spaces within the interior, and created space beneath the house for people to experience. The pavilioned rooms were kept as boxes to create a datum within the reeds, and were also separated by section to create more privacy and allow for more views out to the water. The public spaces of the house are located to the left and front of the entry, from which one can move to the private bedrooms on the right side of the house.
