Michelle Franco Presented at the Society of Architectural Historians 2023 Conference

Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture Michelle Franco presented “We are Landscapers: Research and Pedagogy at the Scale of Labor” at the Society of Architectural Historians 2023 Conference in Montréal. The in-person conference was hosted from April 12–16, and the virtual conference will be hosted from September 20–22.

Franco’s presentation focused on re-valuing labor at work in the context of her academic research and The Diggers Studio pedagogy. The goal of the Diggers Studio was to position physical labor and embodied knowledge as critical means to develop a socially and ecologically conscious landscape practice. Students in the studio dug, sawed, shoveled, hoed, and planted in order to bring the studio’s collective trail design into being.
